Verified Reviewer | Dayton, OhioPoor customer relations
I have always been a Kroger kind-of a-girl greater than 50 years. Prices reasonable, service is usual very good.
But what my dear friend and I experienced last night was not good customer service. My friend needs to ride a scooter to get around the store. The battery almost completely died when approaching the check-out lines. There was a customer service gal standing in front monitoring the self check-outs.
My friend approached the worker and said, "My scooter is almost dead". The customer service gal said, "What do you want me to do about it"? My friend didn't get a chance to ask for another scooter.
A bagger helped get another scooter for my friend. I am in such disbelief.

Verified Reviewer | Harrison Township, MichiganThird time issues with Kroger's Corporate and local store
Hi Folks:
Nothing but the Truth about this KROGER, being a Kroger customer for over 50 years.
I have been told a few times that this Kroger is far the worst grocery store, however, for a year I tried to overlook these comments to make the best of this Kroger Store.
But I have to agree with what I have been told, in fact this Kroger has been steadily going downhill and some employees are or should not be employed at Kroger is extremely sad:
Summary:
My last time shopping at Kroger grocery store:
1.About 25% of the products are not price marked
2.Prices appear to be higher than nearby Kroger
3.You have to check the Expiration dates on all items you will find ready to expire
4.Altitude of Cashier unit manager Ronnie is disrespectful to customers
5.Low grocery stock in many areas.
I was shocked to find out that a dozen of large eggs is $1.89ea with other nearby Kroger pricing is $1.39 a dozen! So, I looked at different dozens of eggs and found that Extra Large Eggs in plastic container is $2.24 and in cardboard container is $1.79ea, so I took one dozen container is $1.79 and expire date was good. Then all *** broke loose, and also a few other items were not priced as the cashier charged me.
I then took it to the service desk manager and wow did not believe me it got to a point where I told her I will go and take pictures with my cell phone, so I did and showed this Ronnie Service Unit Manager and so much implied that I change the Photos and assumed that I was lying TTMF as a former Marine I got HOT stated OK here are my groceries back I want my money back.
The next day checked by bank assumed the monies went back on my card the next day my groceries charge taken out (usually goes pending for 1-2 days), however, the credited to my account was not. As it stands today, I am out $111.92 that is the way Kroger does business.
My I add the Store manager is really no help to me as well.
Called Kroger main office that that is a real joke, you get into auto attendant jail and end up in the Philippines and/or South America. Then, I stopped in at another Kroger to get the regional managers name the telephone number this manager did not give me the name and number and took my name and number told me He will call you Right like He will.
Just to again show you in fact Kroger's has been steadily going downhill.
Please read the other comments listed on this site as well as Google, Yelp, Yellow, Pages.
You will get a bigger picture of what this is Kroger is all about.
After 50+ year as a Kroger shopper, I WILL NOT SHOP AT KROGER AGAIN, Will go to Walmart or Meijers.
My spouse grew up where Kroger's started in Cleveland, Ohio
- Use to be a great store
- Managers attitude
Preferred solution: Full refund

Verified Reviewer | Xenia, OhioThis is the worst grocery store I've been to
I started going to my local Kroger's in Xenia (Ohio) because I was fed up with the crowds at my local Walmart super center, the stores layout wasn't the best, they should spend more time and energy on groceries and less on household items and clothing, we have target for that.
So I had went to Krogers, and while there I had noticed a large sell sign for 12 packs of coke for $3.99, do on inpulse i buy 2, during checkout my grocery bill seemed higher than normal, and when I arrived home and was looking over the receipt I noticed I was charged $9 for each 12 pack of coke, (twice as high as any of their competitors). So the next day I go back to Krogers and spoke with the customer service rep, and explained the situation, he then very rudely informed me that I had to have a digital coupon to receive the sale price and that it was printed small across the top of the sale ad.
Which it was, its a classic method of cheating it's customers, of a digital coupon was required that should of been in bold letters for everyone to see, not tiny writing that requires reading glasses to read.
I have a store issue Kroger's card, and now I'm required to download apps to my phone, all to pay a little more for products than it's competitors and have to deal with rude staff. No thanks, I was over charged about $12, and what they gained cost them any future sales from me
- Rude employees
- Store layout
- Such as the guy at the customer service desk
Preferred solution: Apology

Today 3-3-2024 | went to the Kroger store 218 to send money and to buy some groceries but I decided to send money first so I went to customer service, there I saw the lady who've been rejected me many times, and I made a complaint about her rude attitude a longtime and can tell nobody took action so this time I saw her at the customer service and I was praying for her not to reject me but she did her argument was that she had to many customers but there was only one customer that lady is not suitable for that job her name is "DANA, DANA, DANA" I feel like that lady is a racist and my respect for the other ladies who always take care of me Maria, Fatima, Raven and the other ladies that I dont remember their names they take a good care of me that job is not suitable for DANA she deserves to be away from customers service

Verified Reviewer | Goodlettsville, TennesseePoor manager response to complaint
Just a note about us: we are 76 years old, retired but still working part-time and live in Madison. On Monday, December 18, 2023 my husband and I shopped at the store in Goodlettsville, TN on Northcreek Blvd.
Our cashier was Keziah and the manager I spoke with was Ernest. It was 9:15 AM when we started shopping and 10:45 when we lined up to go through the cashier line. Ahead of us was an older gentleman in a wheel chair, a petite elderly lady, and another elderly woman. Keziah was alone-no one to bag groceries for her-and was doing the best she could.
The people ahead of us were trying to help bag their own groceries but the gentleman in the wheelchair and the petite customer could not physically reach the belt. My husband moved to the front of the line to help those customers bag their groceries and to shorten the time all of us spent in line (he had to get to work). The line behind us was continuing to grow. At no time did any other staff member attempt to help bag groceries while my husband did so for all four of us with Keziah's help.
I spoke to the manager who was dismissive and argumentative. He was inappropriately assertive in a situation that did not require him to do so. I reported that my 76 year old husband was bagging groceries for all of us. Ernest informed me that he didn't have to bag that Keziah could do so.
In other words, bagging groceries had nothing to do with staffing issues, company policy, or the length of the line and the length of time we were having to wait for Keziah to do it all (alone). The fault and responsibility was ours-the customer was wrong. Ernest was emphatic and never expressed concern for us or the situation. Nor did he ask any questions to make an informed response.
He was intent on being correct-an attitude that does not lead to good customer service. There was a staff member working in the self check section who called Ernest for me. He commiserated with me, told me two staff members had "called out" and spoke appreciatively to my husband as we left. He deserves a raise.
I'm sorry I didn't get his name. Ernest needs to be retrained on customer relations, having empathy, being able to express concern and showing humility. Arrogance and "being right" will not serve him well. He missed an opportunity to learn about his customers: there are still some of us who think that "helping" is the right thing to do and we will continue to do so when we see others in need of help.
The check out process and staffing appropriately could be improved immensely.
Having your checker also be responsible for bagging may be efficient but it is done at the customer's expense in time and energy. This is not the first time we have had to bag groceries at that Kroger but it is the first time we have had to bag the groceries for other due to customer volume.
- Digital coupon program
- Management untrained on listening
- Insufficient staffing
Preferred solution: Apology
User's recommendation: Don't bag your own groceries

Verified ReviewerDiapers unusable
Hello, I purchased a box of your brand of diapers a few months ago. I actually ordered about 5 boxes at once hoping to go 6 months without buying diapers.
Anywho, I opened a new box a couple days ago and the Velcro type part of the diaper that connects to the front of the diaper is sewn down abnormally so I cant pull it apart to even stick it to the front. Almost the entire box. The first couple diapers made me open up the other part of the pack and its the overwhelming majority that are the same way, but which makes sense if it comes from the same factory. I have pictures I can absolutely show you but it doesnt let me do it here so please email me.
My local Kroger said since the box was open and I didnt have my physical receipt, they couldnt return nor exchange it. But I dont think thats right when I cant even use the diapers
Preferred solution: Full refund
User's recommendation: If something is obviously wrong with the product that makes it unusual, you should at least be able to take the receipt off my Kroger account
Smashed and deformed products
For the past few months your product quality has been going downhill. I like your Kaleidos cookies with double stuff.
Like i said, quality is lacking. The last few packages i bought, all the filling is off two one side and a lot of it is in the botton of the tray. One package of double stuff didn't have as much in it as a regular package. Quality on that is just plain sad.
On potatoe chips.
Most bags have about a full cereal bowl of smashed chips. If i want smashed chips, I'll sit on them. Some of this problem could be happening in the store. I've watched the stockers put stuff on the shelf.ive seen where the shelf was already squeezed tight and the just shove the bags back and squeeze another one in.
Really stupid.
There are other things i could mention but it would take too long. I like pick and save but, if your quality keeps dropping I'll switch

Today I went to this place to buy a cake for my little girl since it is her birthday the tall African American lady from the bakery told me how can I help you very rudely I answered I want this cake and she very rudely answered me it is closed I'm sorry I went to the I faced the manager and asked her if the bakery was closed since I needed a cake and the very rude lady said it was closed. She was very kind and called her on her phone and asked her to give it to me.
I asked her, are you sure? She said yes, come back. and when that woman looked at me like a demon, she threw the broom against the floor with great anger and looked at me very ugly, she yelled at me which one she wanted and I responded, she yelled at me again, I told her that one and she put it in. She handles it very poorly when she handed it to me.
He threw it out because they allow this type of treatment to customers. It's not fair.

Verified Reviewer | Lansing, MichiganTurned away at checkout
I approached a register to check out and was told they were closed. I proceeded to self checkout which ive never done before and people were steadily goung through the checkout i was turned away from.
Im disabled, hard to walk, strict DR restrictions, cancer removed in lung, disc disease, titanium plate n screws in neck, fusion of cadaver bone in neck 70% fusion out of 100%, and many more medical concerns so checking out, and packing my groceries is not on my agenda to make my life harder. If this is how Lake Lansing rd Kroger is running buisness ill go to Meijer if saving 12$ an hour on employees is to much for the multi billion$ corporation. I do not work for Kroger therefore i will not pack my groceries or check myself out again unless Kroger would like to pay me. Being cheapskates shows how much they care about their buisness.
The 1 guy they had to help people check out on machines needed help and a pleasant female came to help as im not only customer pissed.
Now I find out Kroger skipped my complaint and disregarded my complaint like a used tissue! Kroger obviously could care less about its loyal customers and much more about lining their pockets!

Affidavit of Truth
Notice to Agent is Notice to Principle- Notice to Principle is Notice to Agent
I reserve and invoke ALL rights without prejudice UCC 1-308 formerly UCC 1-207
I filed against this company back in November and the offenses continue.. I still visit this store and their employee Shirley and manager Jawad continue to use "age discrimination" tactics with me.
I told her I was 40 and dont have an ID to present to her. She called the manager and I made him aware that Ive already have a police report, BBB complaint, TABC federal enforcement complaint and a Kroger complaint for this very reason in which the managers who violated the regulation in the name of Kroger where fired. He shook his head and said that he understood." They were refusing me services so I sad, I dont have time to make a police report again but I will be making formal complaints again.. This is frustrating.
I just want them to leave me alone. I BY LAW am FREE to make this Purchase.. Yet Kroger allows their employees to break the law... I recorded this event as well for my record in case I decide to litigate.)
If I'm NOT required to present Any ID, how are they allowed to deny/refuse me, a paying customer, service(s) using discretion and when the TABC federal regulations clearly express I am free to make this purchase "unencumbered".
This is an exercise of my right to the "pursuit of happiness". I informed the clerk and the manager that I'm 40 years old. Is the next step to sue for Age Discrimination? I would love to not be bothered at all so I definitely dont wish to be bullied into "waiving my rights" but don't know how much more I can tolerate being discriminated against..
Could you please inform me of how the last "education" communications went regarding the last complaint filed with TABC and BBB?
Is the TABC website wrong? Is there a Law that requires an American National to present Any form of ID to purchase alcohol?
Sincerely,
R.R. Amrah Bey A.A. and Living Soul

PS.
I file again with TABC and BBB today and I shal every time this happens.. for my record.
- Age discrimination
Preferred solution: Id like for them to take heed to the Law especially regarding Age Verification for the purchase of Alcohol. I reserve all rights w/o prejudice... I was refused service.
