Front end supervisor hovering because she thought I was stealing

I'm usually a Publix shopper but my wife insists that Kroger has better prices (whatever...). So I head over to my local Kroger (which was recently renovated but the sterling customer service that was present for the first 2 days after their grand re-opening has obviously worn off) and pick up some items to get us through the week. With my 3 yr old son in tow, we make our way through the list. I get a wild hair and decide to use the self-checkout which I rarely do because I'm not very skilled at bagging. There is a young guy working that section and we exchange greetings as I begin my checkout. It must have been time for his break because be was replaced by what appeared to be the front end supervisor. Well by this time IV made a mess of the bagging area so as the groceries continue to pile up I notice there's an option to put things back in the cart after they are scanned (which must bypass some weight sensor in the bagging area). I put a couple gallons of milk back in the cart (after scanning) then start scanning my final items whic are egg whites (and of which there 6). I get to the third one and the self-checkout unit issues a manual intervention request. The supervisor comes over and lectures me about how I'm past my limit of how many items I'm allowed to place back in the cart (instead of the bagging area). She then starts examining the contents of my cart and checking that against her handheld POS unit to determine what's been scanned (and what hasn't). I know I've got 3 more to scan but she feels compelled to count again, then tell me to scan 3 more and count aloud as I do it. I make it through the last one and ready to close out my purchase. She interrupts me to ask if I "plan on purchasing the two gallons of Mayfield milk?". I say 'excuse me' in a tone which causes her to return to her POS handheld to double-check her info at which point she realizes that I've already scanned and at this point paid for all my groceries, including the 2 milks. She just utters an "oh, ok--you already scanned them" and moved on to another customer. I start towards the door, turn around and offer my receipt and the opportunity to conduct an audit which she declines, them offer her the chance to check my pockets or pat me down if it would make here feel better which she ignored. I left feeling insulted and knowing that I won't be back to Kroger for a very long time.

Kroger Bakery's cheese pocket danish

Don't waste your money on these *** tasting "danish"....only have about a half a teaspoon of cream cheese in them. The dough is awful!

Noticed that their yeast doughnuts were coming out of large sealed cardboard boxes and being put on shelves. They don't even make their doughnuts on site?? Asked employee if they had any of their pecan rolls that they used to make on site and she had no idea what I was talking about but offered me bear claws and the *** "cheese" danish...WTH!!

But they do have a new Starbucks...big deal!...but no descent baked goods to go with your fancy coffee!

The donuts are baked in store daily but yes they are frozen.

We bake pecan clusters here too, again the rolls are frozen but they sell really well here.

Guest

You mean to tell us, that you didn't know that the baked goods on store shelves aren't baked in the store? About the only place you will find baked goods, actually baked on site is in a bakery. Also what in heck does "descent" mean?

I never get to use my fuel points because one of the people working there is using my number but of course how can I prove this other than she is a family member and she knows my number and every payday they come up missing. There is no one else that could be doing it. It really *** me off that she can shop and use my number and I cant prove it,and she knows this. I had 1000 fuel points saved up for April and she pointed it out to me and before I had a chance to fill up they were gone.

Call the number on the back of your Kroger Card, and ask them to set up a new alternate ID to link your card to. It can be any seven digit number you want. This will fix your problem going forward.

Grocery Bags Will Not Hold a Piece of Candy...

The newer grocery bags are nonfunctional! If you're picking your groceries up in the yard or driveway they obviously don't work! Is it really cost-efficient and friendly to the environment if you have to triple-bag everything? The previous bags already had issues...WHO IS IN CHARGE OF THE IDIOTIC DECISIONS IN THE WORLD? Doubtful this had anything to do with environmental concerns but entirely to give the CEO and administrator's big bonuses. Consumers mean nothing beyond fattening the wallets of a few and it is evident everyday...even the quality of food has hit rock-bottom. I guess someone will have to lose their life slipping on a broken glass jar from a torn grocery bag in the driveway before grocers do anything that makes sense...Kroger set the standard! We expect more from you than the Walmarts of the world!

Krogers at 3520 W. Siebenthaler Ave, Dayton OH

This store is very, very dirty, unclean, unsafe and unsanitary. The floors and shelving near food is full of BLACK MOLD.

The base boards of of the shelves are ridiculously filthy. Someone needs to contact the Board of Health to inspect this locaton for failure to comply with cleanliness. I would never ever patronize this stoe again. I live in Centervile and we dont have an issue with cleanliness at the local Krogers.

My daughter went to this store and called me upset because of the food so close to the BLACK MOLD located in the and near the freezer. Where is the help? There are people who needs a job, they need to hire a cleaner to maintaine this DIRTY store. This place needs a major write up with a citation.

The parking lot is always full of cartrs and not organized. The State inspector needs to come by this place ASAP!

So the city need to step in and help if you close the store you destroy the community is that what you People want to close and repopulate later

Guest

I agree, this store is a disgrace! There are several cigarette butt cans in the main entrance that are not only unsightly, but stink!

As soon as you enter the store you're overwhelmed by the smell of what smells like rotten meat! The parking lot is a battle zone with carts and pot holes everywhere!

I refuse to shop there and will travel out of my way to go to another store. The store needs to close down for a total overhaul!

Guest

Unfortunately, the store is not as clean as it should be. Yes, it is convenient for me and many others.

However, the Englewood and Vandalia stores provides a much better shopping experience. There is no reason for one to except less simply because it is in the neighborhood.

Some of the cashiers and baggers talk about "crazy" stuff while shoppers are standing there getting checked-out. A little employee training (professionalism, common sense, and customer awareness) would help these young people (leaders of tomorrow).

Guest

Health inspectors do regular inspections of any business that handles food, that includes grocery stores, restaurants, convenience stores, etc. Some of these inspections are random.

If the business doesn't obtain a certain score, they are given a deadline to get up to code. Are you sure what you are seeing is black mold and not general dust that has gotten wet, because they aren't going to go around the store digging into crevices in the shelves and below shelves, to make sure all the dust is gone, and is apt to get wet, therefore turning into a mud like substance. However, being you and your daughter don't like how dirty the store is quit going there. As for the carts in the parking lot, I'm sure you are a really good customer and always put your cart away when you are done with it.

What makes you think the store doesn't have a cleaner or maybe even more than one? You are really jumping to conclusions here, maybe you should apply for a cleaning job there.

I love the deals they always have, it really helps me stretch my dollar for myself and my 3 daughters. I will say that they do need to stay on top of the bathrooms, but *** Walmart s bathrooms are even worse.

RE: Kroger - Auto Fuel may be 85 ethanol and not gasoline

I agree. I've been using ONLY Kroger gas for the last few months (because of the points) and my mileage has dropped from an average of 27 mpg to 23. I filled up with Marathon the last time and averaged 26.8. If this isn't evidence it sure is incriminating. The points savings per gallon probably equals the loss, but then what are the points for? It has become apparent to me Kroger is changing and I'm afraid it'd for the worse. Store managers and employees seem to be rude and arrogant and it sure isn't about the customer anymore.

I fill up at Kroger in LaGrange KY every week because I get a big discount from my grocery purchases - recently after a fillup my car engine light came on and test showed one cylynder was miss firing - when the gas ran out I refilled and the problem went away! E85 can cause this although they don't sell e85 at that store.

Recently my son filled up his 2010 Subaru there with premium gas (he always uses only premium gas). - when his tank was low the car stopped running - Dealership said his tank had e85 gas in it which caused engine rings to burn out! I don't know how that could happen on one tank of gas that the pump said was 93 octane premium gas. Is Kroger peddling e85 as gasoline?

- if you have a car that runs on premium I would steer clear. I think they are trying to make up for their gasoline discounts from grocery purchases by putting the cheap e85 in their pumps in place of gasoline....illegally.

Ya lead by example

Several times in the past 3 months, Ive stopped at the Kroger in Towne Lake Parkway in Woodstock Ga, and it seems to be a regular trending thing to hear or see the older gray haired female manager talking to the employees like dogs. The funny thing about this is that its usually the younger kids, who probably seem to be easier targets because theyre less likely to rebutt this verbal abuse. One such example would be a recent Friday evening and the store was very busy. There were only a handful of shopping carts inside and a young man and also a female employee..both teenagers, were both outside...in the rain...pushing the carts inside as fast as they could. This so called manager went out of her way to literally YELL at both these kids and tell them they were taking too long and she had 'timed them' and they needed to hurry up. Speaking as someone on the outside looking in, Id suggest instead of...in FRONT of the customers....yelling at them...another idea would be to get her *** out there and lend a hand. I expect this at Walmart but not Kroger.

Kroger has a union that will not allow managers to help us. It is to protect employees hours, but it really just prevents teamwork.

They can stand there and watch employees bust their butts and if they help they risk a grievance being filed.

Guest

Do you by any chance know how long they had been out there? It could be that the manager had seen them horsing around out in the parking lot. Also if you had been a customer that had a problem, and wanted to speak to the manager and she was outside fetching shopping carts, you would have complained about that too.

Checkout area so cluttered with donation recepatcles!

Seriously, who all finds it annoying that Kroger sticks so many plastic donation receptacles to the little ledge that is intended for customers to put the wallet or checkbook on as they are paying? It is impossible to use it as intended! I always complain and always hear that "a lot of customers complain about it". So, why then does the company not change it?? Have a dedicated "donation slot" or something and leave the little 6'x12" customer ledge for its intended purpose! Today there were two separate Breast Cancer donation containers and a third for ?? and the credit card swiper (that does belong there) and no room for me to write a check. When leaving, I asked for the manager and he just grinned at me. I told him I was serious and that he needed to pass along the word that customers don't like it. His response was "well, at least one customer doesn't like it"... Ok, so if you agree, please let Kroger know. Thanks!

Is it worth that tiny inconvenience to save lives? Absolutely

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-832699

Yes it is worth a tiny inconvenience to save lives; however, that is not the question to ask. The question is is it necessary to place them so that they are a convenience at all.

If you can collect donations without inconveniencing customers who would be happy to donate, then do so. You will note that they now ask if you want to "round up" so apparently someone at HQ asked the right question and remedied the problem.

They are they to provide a service to their customers.

That is their primary role, Other functions must not interfere with basic business. Just keep it real!

You understood from her complaint that she is upset with the charities?? Sounds like you just want to bash her for complaining!

Maybe you need to try and understand what moms deal with when they shop. She probably has kids, groceries and (for all you know) might have other things in her life and should not have to struggle to use something that is there for customers to use when paying! I get it.

I think she suggested that some other platform be added for the charities if Kroger wants to support them. She was right!

MONEY STOLEN BY KROGERS

Updated by user May 26, 2013

:) :eek Additionally Krogers customer care in UT LIED to me and said they had never debited my card for this money nor were in receipt of it. The very next day I spoke to another department at krogers and while believing it was exonerating them from this, she actually emailed a copy of the transaction report from that night and it clearly shows my card was debited the amount in question.

A fact that I did further verify with a representative from AMX. So who is to blame NOW?

Original review May 23, 2013
I selected several items at this store and when I rang out I paid for them with both food stamps and AMX (American ex debit) I unfortunately did not have enough left on AMX to pay it so I had to return one item. I did and it caused a balance on my food stamps card so the cashier had to re-due the entire order again. He did this and when he went to run my cards again GUESS WHAT????? the damned things were declined, and he could not figure out why. (Pathetic) So I connected the dots for him and explained that once he ran the card, The money was was removed from my account. So Theoretically the groceries were bought and paid for regardless as to what the snot nosed little brat cashier was saying about cancelling the order. IT DOES NOT WORK THAT WAY.

Know how much you can spend and don't go over. I'm sure calling the cashier names won't fix anything. Kind of like them saying get a job and get off food stamps.

Guest

Your fault for not bothering to check your balance beforehand.

Guest

Does it make you feel better to call the cashier names? Doesn't sound very mature on your part. In order to avoid situations like this a person should make sure what the balance on your cards is before shopping.

Fuel center discrimination

I got put on 1 year probation for my coworker leaving his trash for me and I left it back for him. I was not hired to be their maid. All workers should be treated equally. Not the night shift doing everything. If that's the case everyone should work at least one Night a week.I feel that I'm being discriminated against, because every-time I go to mgmt. nothing is being done. All he says is the ones that is not doing their work won't be here long. That's a lie. I have been hearing this for 4 years. How long do I have to wait. For the Gmt or someone higher up to do something about this. It keeps getting worse every week. They don't even go by Y availability. What's the use of putting it in the computer if they don't bother to go by it.

Krogers in Vicksburg, Ms has some of rude employees. Johnny Lewis in customer service like to raise his voice and holler at someone.

One thing for sure you gonna keep on talking to people like that ate crazy and hollering at them and someone is gonna show you that you can't do that. The other thing you need to know is your butt is replaceable. Change your attitude.

He hate for someone to show him a mistake, I guess he suppose to always be right. He's just sad and don't need to be there.

Guest

as a night shift employee myself i feel your pain. but i dont understand your whining.

if you have been doing this long enough then you should know that night shift employees have to finish up what the day people could not get to. there could be many reasons they didnt take out the trash. being lazy is just one of them. in all honesty if that is the only thing that was left for you....

then you should be happy. and btw your story is pure BS!!! you cant automatically be put on probabtion for something...

unless of course you have been disciplined before regarding the same incident. if you dont understand how write ups work please call your local UFCW.

Guest

That happens with all night shifts. Most of the time the night shift has a different manager.

You either have to learn to put up with it, or find a different job.

Maybe you could ask to be put on the night shift, and do everything that you think they should do. However, it isn't doing you any good to act like a spoiled child and not pick up the mess left by the night people.

I'm not sure what you are saying but it sounds like you were fired at one Krogers and were hired at a different Krogers and when they found out you had been fired they decided not to hire you after all...it that it? It is clear you are so upset and distraught that you aren't able to communicate well.

Krogers is not the only supermarket, I'm sure with your experience you will find another job if not Obama has a great unemployment program you may qualify to receive.

Guest

your post was so confusing i had to sit down before i fell down.

It depends what you got fired for.

Guest

Your complaint doesn't make any sense, all it does is ramble on. You used all caps which means you are shouting at us, you don't have very little punctuation in your complaint, and your grammar is horrendous.

I'm sure you can find a job flipping burgers, those places are always hiring.

Also working in a grocery store at just a little over minimum wage isn't going to get you off food stamps, unless you have other income too. If Utah is a right to work state, the employer can fire a person for no reason at all, therefore, I think there is more to this story.

False Shoplifting Accusation

Yesterday my wife shopped at Kroger on Old Fort Parkway in Murfreesboro, TN for a few items and they had a rack of jewelry there near the front of the store. She chose a pair of earrings and a bracelet for herself and placed them in her shopping cart. She then proceeded to the self-checkout to pay for her items. She missed the jewelry down in the bottom of her cart and checked out without paying for them. She then proceeded to the service desk to ask a question about a product she had purchased. After which, she tried to leave the store. When she reached the first set of doors a plain-clothes security person stopped her and said that she was shoplifting. She tried to explain that she had made an honest mistake but he made her come upstairs to the store office. There the security person and the store manager told her they were calling the police to prosecute her since the amount was greater than $15.00. She tried explaining that she just overlooked the two items because they were so small down in the cart. They wouldn't hear it. They called the police and she has been charged with a shoplifting misdemeanor. She was also told that she cannot enter Kroger ever again and that if she did, she would be arrested for trespassing!

Now we are forced to hire an attorney so that we can get this resolved. All over a mistake that added up to $32.00. My wife has a clean record. Nothing at all. It's been ten years since her last traffic violation! She is a good person who just made a mistake. There was no criminal intent. Long ago when shopping she realized she hadn't paid for a dozen eggs that was under her purse in the shopping cart. When she got to the car with them and realized it, she went back into te store and said for them. She wasn't stealing the jewelry yesterday either. It was just an oversight.

I know these stores have Loss Prevention Teams in place to stop shoplifting. They have security personal walking the aisles like shoppers watching the customers. Shoplifters cost stores a great deal. But the security person was very rude with my wife and very arrogant. She told me that you could tell that this made this day. Well, let me tell you.... It made mine too! Now we are going to have to fight this in the courts and who knows what kinds of expenses we will have to endure. Granted its only a misdemeanor. But she is not guilty and we are going to have to prove her innocence so that this is not on her record in a system that is all about making money.

Thank you Kroger!

We will never spend our hard-earned money there again!

I deal with thieves at Kroger stores for a living and only 1 out of 100 might admit to their crime, despite being caught red handed and on video no less. With that occasional oddball "honest" thief, it is always the same BS "din du nuffins" story.

By your own admission your wife screwed up, and in fact took something without paying for it. It is quite wrong of you to call the personnel you dealt with rude in light of the fact that *** near 100% of the time they are being lied to. From their perspective, you are the rude ones trying to steal from their company and then trying to pass things off as an honest mistake.

Depending on your state's theft law, this may or may not be prosecutable offense, depending on your side's ability to show intent or lack thereof with regards to theft. But a reasonable person in Kroger's shoes would tend to discount your story true or not.

Guest

Forgetting to pay for something isn't stealing? Good luck with that.

Mateus Fvr

If you had gotten out with the earrings, I highly doubt you would of returned them! There's nothing false about going past the point of sale with unpaid merchandise!

Guest

I was charged today for stealing at krojer when I acciently didn't scan a bag of 10 dollar cat food at the uscan. It was a mistake to and they yelled me in front of customers and I was cites by the police for theft. Now I have to hire a lawyer and go to court.

Guest

it is unfortunate what happened to your wife. it was an honest mistake.

it is also unfortunate that you can not see the retailers side of it. i have been involved with stopping many shoplifters and they were all innocent. they told me so!! my suggestion is to get ahold of the video that showed her put the items in the basket.

her behavior will no doubt be the deciding factor for the judge. it is obvious when people are trying to hide something. good luck.. dont waste your money on the lawyer!!

many people in security, loss prevention and law enforcement have the same arrogant attitude. it comes from having power.

Let go for cashier not ringing up my tea

I had been at krogers for over 2 years with not one policy violation. Never missed a day of work and was going to get promoted in a few weeks. I went to deli and got some chicken and stop at cooler and got a ice tea. I proceeded to the customer service and set my tea and chicken down and started talking with the customer service rep. I was not paying attention while she rang my order up. Paid then went to break room for lunch. 3 hours later after I had clock out I was called to manager office who said I did not pay for my tea. I look at my receipt and sure enough she did not ring it up so I was put on indefinat suspension. Krogers does that so you can't draw unemployment . The cashier is still there but I'm not. I would not recommend anybody to work for krogers.

Well you can see why that person was so mad. It is disgusting to see employees eating behind the deli.

If they want to have lunch take it to the break room. The glove issue....OMG why would it be all right for that guy to use the deli spoon without wearing gloves! That spreads numerous germs onto the public. It's how other people get sick!

I'm almost 100% positive that if the State Health Department were there he wouldn't be using a spoon in the deli without gloves let alone eating behind the counter. Maybe that person who posted that not so nice comment didn't use proper language but I think the point is don't eat behind the counter and for Gods sake please wear gloves while handling our food!

Guest

Gloves should have been used for the reason that others would be using that same spoon. Why bring up his size, should someone fat hide to eat and never speak to anyone.

The point could have been made without attacking someone for being fat. I am positive you are not perfect.

Guest

Let's just hope and pray that the manager didn't finger the swiss cheese when visits the deli. :grin

Andrea Ahw

So when you get fat, and talk, someone should get on the internet and make fun of you. People like you really deserve their own island.

Guest

Why should an employee wear gloves to dish up their own food? The manager's size isn't any of your business.

You know the Bible says "judge not, lest ye be judged." Why can't the manager eat in the deli and why can't he talk? Honestly if you don't like the man for some legitimate reason say so, but the things that you are listing aren't legitimate complaints. So you don't like fat people, get over it. Someday, you could end up fat, yourself.

When it comes right down to it your implied foul language doesn't make you sound very nice. Aren't the employees allowed to eat the deli food? Instead of worrying what other people are doing, maybe you should worry about your lack of capitalization, lack of spacing between sentences, poor spelling, and punctuation.

By the way y'all isn't in the dictionary. My opinion is keep your nose out of other people's business.

Hey you, holy roller.... the manager could of taken a big fat dump and not washed his hands and then goes to the deli to stick his hand in the deli case and grabs the spoon and serves himself up only to put the spoon back inside of the bowl in the deli case yo spread ecoli every where.

thats unsanitary. he should have used some gloves

Guest
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-686684

Yes they did use poor language. I think the point of this is if the man is going to eat he needs to go to the break room to do so.

Also anyone in the deli should wear gloves. I'm almost positive that the Health department requires it! The in store training also demands that anyone in the deli department has to wear gloves while handling the food. Not to mention changing the gloves often.

No one really knows if all individuals wash their hands after using the bathroom, touching their hair, scratching their armpit or worse!

I also think it is improper for the man to be behind the counter eating. doesn't matter whether he is fat or skinny!
