Kroger - Poor employee training
As a Kroger Plus customer (4 02895 ****7 8) I shopped at the Griffin, Ga store on hwy 16 West on June 5, 2015 and checked out with cashier Jacoria. I handed her my coupon related to two bags of coffee which she was just ringing up, and I noticed she put it down without scanning it.
At the end I pointed this out and she said she couldn't do anything--I would have to go stand in another line at customer service. To which I replied that she could fix it there, but the other cashier agreed with her. Customer service finally gave me the $1.50 that was due after which I asked for the manager, who said "Eh, sorry--they aren't supposed to do that." Right!
Other stores DON'T do that. Seems to be a problem with employee training.

Coupons are scanned at the end after you hit total. I always forget if someone gives them to me first, so try giving them last.
You may have gotten a surge checker pulled from another department. They do that a lot, and my experience with cross training is they give you bare minimum.
